Why I built a calibration lab management software startup.

Updated: Jan 13, 2023

Calibration management needed much more than spreadsheets and non-standard processes. So was built Metquay.

I spent more than six years of my career with commercial and internal calibration labs across the globe including Singapore, Australia, UAE, the United States, and Europe, building software automation and process improvement tools for them. After a couple of years in the industry, I realized that there is a market need for an end-to-end automated solution to manage calibration labs.

The problem in calibration lab management runs deep.

Coming from a technology background, I was quite surprised to find that most of the processes were either paper-based or running on legacy Microsoft Access databases or Spreadsheets at best. Available solutions in the market were built for specific use cases, and most times lacked the macro picture.

The market demands a solution that is built on ISO 17025, which defines the general guidelines for the functioning of a calibration lab, and that could integrate seamlessly with the specific automation solutions provided by the equipment manufacturers.

It’s time to take on the problems head-on.

Eventually, I realized that I need to do something about the problem. If done right the solution will create a huge market opportunity. So I jumped into the startup bandwagon in 2018 and started Metquay. We built software that is based on ISO 17025. We focused on three things. Process efficiency, transparency, and compliance.

Metquay provides an end-to-end Calibration Lab management solution that engages not only the calibration labs but also their customers by keeping them well informed about the due dates and timelines. This ensures exponentially better turnaround times and improved customer satisfaction quotient of the labs.

Currently, we have over 50 calibration labs spread across North America, Australia, and Asia using our solution to automate their uncertainty calculations and certification process. We continue to focus on addressing more problems in the global calibration market thus providing more value to the calibration labs.
